Love at first like: Audrey & Rosa
Meet Audrey and Rosa, a lovely couple we got to know thanks to Tiquicia Shot Photography. Even though they’ve suffered discrimination, Audrey and Rosa managed to create their own family in a small country town, just outside of San Jose called Puriscal.

Audrey and Rosa met through Facebook. It all started with a like and a friend request from Rosa, but Audrey is Asperger and a little shy, so it took her some time to understand the love messages…
By September 24th 2018, Audrey and Rosa became a couple… but in the meantime, Rosa was admitted to the hospital and had restricted access to phone and visits, but Audrey managed to message and visit at least once.

The challenges
What others might say is one of the biggest challenges a gay person might face throughout its life. For example, how a lesbian couple should or shouldn´t act; living in families where homosexuality cannot be mentioned, in terms of not insulting, but avoiding; just to mention a few. This is why, a year later, Rosa left her hometown, Coronado, and headed towards the place that would become their love nest, Puriscal.
The proposal
For their anniversary, they went on a romantic getaway to San Carlos. Rosa had it all planned. She surprised Audrey with a marriage proposal. Want to know how? She wrote “Will you marry me?” in rose petals. A magnificent love declaration from a truthful heart.
Audrey had already planned to propose before Rosa did. She even had the ring, which she later hid in the old Christmas Tree. Audrey was going to decorate a room and even hire a photographer, but she later on realized that the only thing they both wanted was to be together despite what other people might say.

Same-sex marriage in Costa Rica
Audrey and Rosa know that due to the Pandemic affecting the world there won´t be any Pride parade nor other festivities regarding the historic celebration of same-sex marriage in Costa Rica, but they are hopeful that after May 26th, they’ll be closer to consolidate their, in the words of Audrey: “weird, strange, unique and lovely family”.
